Foster is the man who saves Liam, Maddy and Sal from their deaths. He takes them to their field office, introduces them to their new roles. In a practice mission, he takes Liam and Bob to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy to see if Maddy and Sal can spot the shift. He only delays the assassination though, so the contamination is temporary (no pun intended) and soon overwrites by itself.
He stays during most of the events of the first book: the main time wave caused by Kramer, Liam and Bob's reconnaissance mission, the second, destructive time wave, Liam's second mission (which reverts history back to normal) and Liam's return. He helps to upload Bob's stored memories into the computer mainframe and then leaves, but not before giving Maddy the information she needs to run the team, as well as a subtle hint on where to find him. He also tells Maddy about Liam aging every time he travels in time.
In TimeRiders: Day of the Predator (book) Maddy finds him in Central Park and he reveals that he is, actually, Liam O'Connor after he ages from time travel. He is about to die from tachyon particles damaging the cells in his body. He and Maddy regularly chat during the rest of the books in Central Park, but because it will be the same day for him over and over, he can never remember that they have had a conversation. Although, he is astute enough to pick up on what is happening due to his own experiences.
He is shot and killed by the support unit called Damien in City of Shadows whilst attempting to escape from him and his accomplices. Liam, Sal, Maddy and Bob leave Foster's bullet-riddled body behind and continue to try and escape, just as the New York police find and open fire on Damien, killing him too.
Later, it is revealed that Foster is not Liam after all, rather, he was a previous version of Liam from an original Timeriders team who occupied the archway before our group. There was also a Sal and a Maddy in Foster's team, but they were both killed by a rogue Seeker which managed to slip from the Chaos Dimension and into the Archway unnoticed. Liam/Foster avoided being killed, and eventually managed to dispose of this Seeker, before informing Waldstein of the incident.
